Eagle County Woman Sentenced to Three Years Community Corrections for Firing Gun at Boyfriend, Fleeing Scene

EAGLE COUNTY, COLORADO – Jennifer Clark, 42, of Avon, was sentenced Monday on charges related to a August 25, 2015 shooting at her then boyfriend. The charges upon which Ms. Clark was sentenced are 1) Felony Menacing with a weapon (Class 5 Felony); 2) Tampering with Physical Evidence (Class 6 Felony); and, 3) Prohibited Use of a Weapon (Class 2 Misdemeanor).

Defendant was sentenced by the Court to three years in Community Corrections, a step below prison.

The underlying crime occurred at approximately 5:30 p.m. on Aug. 25, when Eagle County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the River Run Apartments, in unincorporated Eagle County, after they received a 911 call involving “shots fired” at the apartment complex. Police on arrival learned that defendant Clark had returned to the home she shared with the victim earlier in the day, and there got into a verbal dispute causing her boyfriend to leave the apartment. Defendant Clark followed the victim outside to a picnic table, and firing a .40 caliber handgun at her boyfriend. The defendant fled the scene and was later located at a nearby restaurant and was arrested.

“After Monday’s sentencing, we are glad to put an end to this violent act of domestic violence,” said District Attorney Bruce Brown. “The extraordinary violence of firing a gun at an unarmed person is just crazy and deserving of a significant loss of liberty. Gratuitous violence of any sort is unacceptable but shooting at a supposed love one is just unimaginable,” Brown added.
